Display email addresses
“Never display e-mail address?” in Prefs/Advanced can be confusing to users. I know there was a conversation about how the description could be phrased before.
My suggestion is that it should be simplified.
It could change to:
Display e-mail addresses? – Yes – No
Where Yes displays them and No doesn’t.
Edit: Further:
Disallow user images?
could be replaced with “Allow user images” following the same logic as above.

Re: Display email addresses
I think it should be changed to “Do not avoid not showing email addresses” ;)

What does that mean to not avoid not ?
I have never understood, what is the right option , to achieve what I want. So yes, it needs to be simplified and made clear to the User, what are they selecting.
And if a avoid not to not should be necessary, then the whole context needs to go into the help context popup.
So could you elaborate a little on this ?How could an accurate help-text be formulated, so that it is easily understood by both novice and advanced Users ?

Re: Display email addresses
I agree, though this probably belongs in crockery because it internally changes the meaning of a preference to the opposite of what it was before.

Re: Display email addresses
ruud, for the current branch wouldnt it be enough to change the labels on the radio buttons? even if internally the values are the same, the display would be different.
(and yes, i was joking)

Re: Display email addresses
I don’t think the labels for a single preference can be switched.

Re: Display email addresses
The way it is now is confusing and incorrect. Colak’s idea is definitely a good choice.

Re: Display email addresses
A well-known problem. As Ruud points out, it switches what the preference values mean, so…

ruud: I don’t think the labels for a single preference can be switched.
would this be because of accessibility issues? I also edited my original post with an extra but related request:)
If the requests cannot be achieved now, hopefully they will be implemented in crockery and eventually on the 4.1 release.

Re: Display email addresses
It is actually a technical issue, the prefs page is highly automated. But yes, crockery is where we’ll do it (change the phrasing of the pref).
