Organaziation and Sorting - Sections and Multiple Categories

I am a textpattern novice. I have built several sites using txp, but still have a hard time grasping abstract ideas concerning semantics, especially if thens and sorting. I have yet to sort when using 2 categories. I have only had to create a section and assign 1 category.

Here’s the situation: I am building an event site with a media archive gallery

Media types:
audio
video
photo
flyers

Years:
1996
1997
1998
1999
etc…

In your experienced textpattern opinion, should I create a section of “Media” and a parent category of “Media Type” and sub categories of “audio, video,…” and another parent category of “Year” and sub categories of “1996, 1997, …”?

or

Create a section for each media type and use categories for the years?

What would be more flexible and organized.

Re: Organaziation and Sorting - Sections and Multiple Categories

I’m in a similar situation and would be interested in others’ suggestions.

I’ve bookmarked a somewhat related thread Categories per Section that you might find interesting, but I haven’t gotten around to tackling the problem yet.

Anyway, the plugin cbs_category_list seems to come in handy.

Cheers Martin

Yea, I’d like to avoid a plugin solution. I’ll read the categories per section thread.
