Re: Post your Clean URL .htaccess tweaks here
Is there a problem or issue?
I have just moved servers and updated to 4.05. When I check diagnostics I get a pass. When I go high I fail. When I check again I pass. Not sure.

Re: Post your Clean URL .htaccess tweaks here
I’m using Mac Os 10.4, with txp 4.0.5
To enable .htaccess and mod-rewrite, I followed instructions from:
http://www.clagnut.com/blog/350/
and
http://forum.textpattern.com/viewtopic.php?pid=111353#p111353
If I remove the .htaccess, I have no problem viewing the site, bit then if I use the default .htaccess file I get a 404 error.
I’ve tried most of the suggestions but it still doesn’t work.
Would anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?
TIA,
Elle

Re: Post your Clean URL .htaccess tweaks here
I don’t really know what I’m talking about in this area, but the following has worked for me:
On my 10.4 Mac I can use the default TXP 4.0.5 .htaccess with no problem — i.e., I haven’t uncommented any lines.
My httpd.conf differs from the default at the following points:
- line 240, uncomment
- line 284, uncomment
- line 399, add
Includes
- line 406, change to
All
- line 445, add
index.php
- line 523, added the line
DefaultType application/x-httpd-php
- VirtualHost blocks for name-based virtual hosting
In /private/etc/httpd/users/ I have a my_user_name.conf
file, containing:
<Directory "/Users/my_user_name/Sites/"> Options All Multiviews AllowOverride All Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory>
I’m sure there are better ways of doing this. Some of it is probably unnecessary. It’s all trial and error for me, but as I say it works. Good luck.

Re: Post your Clean URL .htaccess tweaks here
Did the above and it didn’t work with the default .htaccess but I then uncommented the RewriteBase line and added the path to the folder where the site in development is, and all is good :)
My rule now says:
RewriteBase /~my_user_name/path/to/site
Thanks,
Elle

Glad to hear it’s working. I’m curious about the need for the RewriteBase statement. Are you using virtual hosting?
Are you using something other than the default OS X web sharing locations (/Library/WebServer/Documents or /~/Sites)?

Re: Post your Clean URL .htaccess tweaks here
Has anyone had success using clean URLs on MediaTemple grid-hosting. I’ve been working on this for a while now, and I’m scratching my head.

Re: Post your Clean URL .htaccess tweaks here
Clean urls dont seem to work properly on subdomains on media temple grid hosting. But they work allright on proper domains.
There is a thread on the media user temple forum about this but its not resolved yet.
edited to say ive got the mt grid serivice hosting running clean urls on both domains and subdomains
On a proper domain you can use the standard .htaccess file.
On subdomains it doesnt work BUT this one from Mr. Dale does work:
DirectoryIndex index.php index.html
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteBase /
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
RewriteRule ^(.+) – [PT,L]
RewriteRule ^(.*) index.php
</IfModule>
#php_value register_globals 0

Re: Post your Clean URL .htaccess tweaks here
Hi,
I’m not sure if this information is useful or not, but I thought I should post it just in case. These are the .htaccess settings I needed to use to make clean URLs work on my server.
I don’t know exactly what the diagnostics tool does to see if clean URLs are working, so I’m not sure why it says they don’t, but anyway, they do work.
