10 custom fields limit override

Hi all,
in this days I’m experimenting with the glz_custom_fields plugin which – at least from my point of view – represents a big step ahead for textpattern.
Anyway, though working perfectly, the plugin is still missing an important feature: the possibility to set an unlimited number of custom fields.
I’m not aware of the inner workings of txp so I don’t know if I’m saying something stupid but I read on this post that Gerhard is asking for an apparently slight modification of txp code.
So my question is: is there a possibility that this modification will be present in the next release of textpattern (wich seems to be imminent) or should I better start to modify textpattern code by hand (which obviously I’d prefer to avoid)?
I’m sure this modification – should this ever happen – will be appreciated by many, not only glz_custom_fields users.
Thats all. Thanks in advance for any clarification.

Re: 10 custom fields limit override

It won’t happen in 4.0.6
IMHO, unlimited custom fields should be implemented in a separate table, moving all the custom fields out of the main textpattern table instead of putting it all in the textpattern table.

Re: 10 custom fields limit override

huh? the plugin does let you set unlimited custom fields. it uses the first 10 from the default core set and custom fields made after that are stored in its own table.

Re: 10 custom fields limit override

Looking at the movie Gerhard made, the custom fields (i.e. custom_11) are stored in the textpattern table.

Re: 10 custom fields limit override

oh whoops, looking at the plugin again i guess i meant to say the values themselves are placed in its own custom_fields table

Re: 10 custom fields limit override

I think I misunderstood someting when reading this Gerhard post where he was talking about a “grey area” with respect to the number of custom fields.
Actually I tried now to set more than 10 custom fields and all seems to work nicely. So it’s clear Gerhard was referring to another aspect of the plugin I din’t understand properly.
I’m sorry for having started a quite useless thread ;-)
