smd_slimbox and search results
hi…
i’m having a bit of a problem with a photo site i’m doing up using textpattern.
i’m using stef dawson’s great smd_slimbox plugin to display galleries of photos. also, each photo has a reference number for unique identification; so far, so simple.
the photo reference numbers are being displayed as part of the photo caption in the slimbox popup. as anyone who has used the plugin will know, this is achieved by inserting this information into each photo’s alt/title attributes.
i also want people to be able to use my site search to find particular photos by searching for the photo reference number. however, the search doesn’t search the photo alt/title attributes, so even though the photos, with their reference numbers, are live as part of the site, the search doesn’t “see” them and returns zero search results.
is there any way to get the search to “see” this information, or some other best-practice way of ensuring that this information is included in the site search? (through modifying the search settings, the plugin settings, the article settings, or something else…)
the only other solution i can see is to have a list of all the reference numbers in the body text of the accompanying article for each set of photos, but this is a quite ugly and hack-y way to get the search to work.
any ideas?
thanks…

Re: smd_slimbox and search results
your issue has noting to do with the plugin but with the search function of txp which does not search any other fields except the ‘title’ and the ‘write’ field in the “Write tab”.
Your solution of including the numbers (or whatever info) in the body seems that it might be the only build in way. You could consider wrapping that info in a span/div with a class which can be made invisible via css.
On the other hand i seem to recall that there were some plugin(s) being discussed here which expanded the possibilities of the build in search.

I’ve been doing it like this for a while:
<!-- words/text that you don't want to display, but should turn up in search results -->
I agree this is not a nice way to do it.
Why don’t you take a look at one of Stef’s other plugins? It’s in beta, but I’m testing it and as far as I know you can decide which article fields should be searched. It doesn’t seem to support searching images yet, but at least you’d be able to enter the reference numbers in the keywords or excerpt field (if these are not already in use). And who knows some day Stef will add an image search feature. smd_fuzzy_find.
