What's wrong with single dynamic page?

Hi there,

Please excuse my ignorance but if anyone care to explain why should I use all those sticky articles and forms for static content throughout entire site that need only one page (section) in txp. I mean if I have 30 static pages and only ‘news page’ should have cms, why bother with all that choping into forms and articles instead of making just that one in txp?

I also use Textpattern for completely static sites, because I find that splitting everything up in articles and forms makes it a lot easier to apply changes to (parts of) a site. But you should use TXP as it suits you best, you can also install it in a subdirectory ‘news’ and use it only for that.

um you can make your txp page however you want.

if you really have over 30 static pages that all share some form of similar setup (similar navigation or footer for example), then putting those into forms would save your life if there were ever a need to change something in them.

making static content using an article allows for easier editing for someone of a non-html/txp background. hell, even if you were a guru, i’m sure you still wouldn’t mind the fact that TXP allows you to separate your content from your presentation.

Re: What's wrong with single dynamic page?

You can also create all those static pages in TxP without messing with articles and forms.
For example, you can create one page template for each static page.
Then, you just paste your current static html code there and you don’t even need to mess with TxP tags.
Finally, you create one section per each page you’ve created.
Of course, if you have 30 pages templates, you will have to create 30 sections and assign the corresponding template.

I won’t say that this is a good method, but this way you don’t mess with tags and forms.
Of course, you loose some features like articles permlinks (in this case, the section URL will be the article URL).

I would take the time to do it the right way (there is more than one right way to do things in TxP).
I would recommend you to mess with articles and txp forms.
In any case, the right way is the one that fits better for you.
