title shortening

hi…

i’m populating a list with the titles of articles, which is then being used as part of the navigation of the site i’m making. i’m hoping that there’s some way of shortening title tags to make the nav a little neater.

what i have is a list a bit like this, done up in <ul> and <li>‘s:

recent projects:

- ‘project name 1’

- ‘project name 2’

- ‘project name 3’

- ‘project name 4 with a longer name than all the others’

- ‘project name 5’

and what i’d like is something like this:

recent projects:

- ‘project name 1’

- ‘project name 2’

- ‘project name 3’

- ‘project name 4 with a lon…’

- ‘project name 5’

what’s the best way to do this?
