Installation stops working

Hello there,

I’m new to this forum and to Textpattern. I have recently been looking after different cms systems, and Textpattern seemed a good option to me (after trying cmsmadesimple, joomla etc.).

However, I am experiencing difficulties regarding the installation of Textpattern. Everything works well, but when I hit the “I did it” button after the replace-the-config-file page, I get a blank screen (not totally blank, since the css-file is still attached to that page, so I still see the typical yellow border at the top). But no text, no furter instructions, no redirects or anything.

Please, anybody, help me with this problem, since I hardly have time left to set up my (renewed) website… and I’m quite excited about this cms and don’t want to wait any longer…

Hi all,

I’m also seeing the same thing. I’d love to try TextPattern, but I can’t get past the DB setup screen. I’ve checked the permissions, all seems good, I get no errors in the Apache log. I get about half a page of source, attached below. Can anyone help with this?

I think your path is incomplete. Are you sure /~colin/colinfleming.net/textpattern is correct, in full?

Thanks for the quick reply. I’m not sure, that was what I suspected as well. The URL in my browser is:

http://localhost/~colin/colinfleming.net/textpattern/setup/index.php

This is just for dev on my home system, obviously. So the absolute path should work as long as it’s coming from a request on localhost. In my config.php I have the following line:

[‘txpath’] = ‘/Users/colin/Sites/colinfleming.net/textpattern’;

But there’s no line specifying the base URL of the application – do I need one? I googled but couldn’t find what the URL parameter was called. I saw a few references to setting it up in the config panel but obviously that’s currently no good to me.

BTW shame on me for such a lame bug report – I’m on OSX, Apache/1.3.33 (Darwin) PHP/4.4.4, MySQL 4.1.19.

I changed the permissions and it still didn’t work, but then I deleted the config.php and re-ran the whole installation after fixing the permissions and it went fine.
