auto thumbnailing
Is it intentional that auto thumbnailing is working different than manual thumbnailing?
When I use manual thumbnailing with either a height or width the result will be a thumbnail that has the correct aspect ratio and is either height value tall or width wide with textpattern (or better the thumbnailing class) calculating the missing value accordingly. Leaving one of the parameters empty is no problem, setting both results in a thumbnail that is width x height in dimensions and ignores the aspect ratio of the source image.
The auto thumbnailing works different: Both width and height have to be defined to enable auto thumbnailing resulting in quite ugly and often unusable (dependiong on the images that is: consider digicam images – you have the choice to either use a square thumbnail that is bulged or if you enable cropping that may not show what you wanted to show in the first place).
I propose to check the existence of either width or height to work its magic, not both.
