Manfre.net relaunched
I wanted to make a few changes to my site, which functions primarily as a blog. There are two sides to the blog, the technology (mostly textpattern development) related stuff that should be viewable by the public, and then there are the private entries that I would like viewable by a select group of users. The hiding of entries had to be as transparent to my normal blogging work flow, otherwise I would inevitably publish something to the wrong area. I also needed the ability to restrict access to certain categories. The existence of the entries needed to be seen by all, just not certain content of the entry.
I was unable to find any combination of plugins that would grant me these behaviors. The closest match was ign_password_protect, but it would require me to make a work flow change. I started with Textpattern v4.0.5 and then proceeded to make a few modifications to the core. The modifications allowed me to expose more of the Textpattern core to a companion plugin. The plugin works off a simple set of restriction rules that will block access to the article, or to certain (configurable) pieces article. To prevent a future leak, the plugin was designed to work with the core tags, whether they are for a feed or an article display. To prevent the situation of a silent failure, I added new if tags that were used to display an icon next to entries that have passed the restriction rules.
The restriction rule plugin does not work without the underlying changes to several core files, so it will not be released to the public at this time.
The layout is using Reid Stott’s Web Writer v3. After spending a few hours browsing Textplates, I thought this template was the closest match to what I would like for my site. The modifications I have made add ako_social and visual cues for protected entries (only visible when logged in).

Re: Manfre.net relaunched
It’s nookin very nice, Manfred. Things are much more findable now at your domain.
I also intend to work with Reids Template ( the best entry for my taste ). I want to adapt it to mlp.
(Hopefully this month).
regards, marios
