squaredeye.com is officially live.

Its been a long time coming. See what I’ve learned in the process.

Thanks to yall TXP folks who’ve helped me get on my feet, and even
start a business.

Cheers,

Matthew

Nice work Matthew….I like the site a lot.
The first version looked really cool too.

Re: Squared Eye. Web Design Firm.

very nice!!!! i also liked the first version as well and enjoyed reading the process.

one little caveat…at the very bottom of the page where the “Near Here” and “Related by Category” area is, the links to those articles don’t seem to be clickable? this is using firefox 2. maybe its just something on my end but hmm. works fine in IE and such though. hmm

Re: Squared Eye. Web Design Firm.

iblastoff,
its the sifr.

Correction, it was my use of position:absolute, along with big padding and those long stems for the section dividers.

I think I’ve got it working. Now I need to fireup IE to see what I broke there :)

Thanks for letting me know.

Re: Squared Eye. Web Design Firm.

Very enjoyable site, Matthew, and a very honest and trust-building writeup of the design process.

May I suggest that you decide between being either a “we” or an “I”? There’a a bit of ambiguity throughout the copy on the use of plural/singular and first person/third person, as in “The personal blog for my wife Amy…” vs. “This is where owner and creative director, Matthew Smith, first wet his appetite for all things web…” vs. “We design authentic…” (All quotations from here)

Re: Squared Eye. Web Design Firm.

Also, trying to figure out the alignment issues of the h4.sections.
I can’t get it to work properly in Safari and Firefox. I almost never find
discrepencies between them. I did today :)

Re: Squared Eye. Web Design Firm.

Matthew, sorry if my critique sounded ‘strong’, or ‘socially unpolite’ the other day. Totally unintended.

As said, I found the site very elegant, yet just lacking those few things that would totally make it rock in my opinion – which is why I allowed myself to quickly make those suggestions. My English is far from perfect. Trying to be quick is probably unintendedly making it sound harsh.

While I’m of course flattered to see you took some of the advice, I’m a bit surprised with the reaction on your blog post. Anyway, I wouldn’t want to spoil the fun, I’ll leave it for what it is.

Re: Squared Eye. Web Design Firm.

ggbb,
I did leave your name out of it :)
No harm done, you’ll notice I thought you were absolutely right.
Your english is quite good, but your tone was sharp and arrogant.
I don’t suspect you are sharp and arrogant though, so it must have been limited to your post :)

Its friday. I’m happy. I was glad to get your ideas. They led me to a happy place.

Now if I can only figure out the alignment for those dang h4’s! :)

Re: Squared Eye. Web Design Firm.

Great work Matthew, I have added your site to welovetxp.com

I get a horizontal scroll bar in Safari OSX on your notebook entries though.

Re: Squared Eye. Web Design Firm.

Sam,
Thanks for adding it the list of so many great sites!

Also, thanks for pointing out the scrollbar. As I’ve mentioned, these h4’s and the absolute positioning I’m attempting are giving me a headache. One of my trusty developers will hopefully be looking into that and other minor adjustments and cleanups over the next weeks. In the meantime, I need to go secure some new clients, keep the present ones happy, and learn to not think about work on Sundays!

:)
