Workplace Confessional. (community-edited)
WPC is a community-edited (moderated) collection of humorous/amusing stories from the workplace.
Initially, the site was set up with such plugins as ign_password_protect and mem_self_register to let users authorize themselves to post. At that point, the site was dead in the water – users had to go through too much trouble to add their stories and quotes to the collection.
Release 2 was essentially a complete rewrite (and redesign) of the site. The post form was reworked and placed more prominently, and making the post process completely anonymous meant that a klutzy registration was no longer necessary for would-be contributors.
Few notable features of the site:
- I brought in an AJAX library for the frontpage, turning it into an interactive portal with digg-style voting for both Confessions and Overheard items. I’m still working on the library’s overhead; bit bulky for what it needs to do.
- The invite section is probably the least-used function of the site, but for some reason I’m really delighted with it. I’d release it as a plugin, but it uses a proprietary/commercial set of functions. :/ If anyone wants something like this, let me know.
That said, it’s still a wip. Fully functional/active, but still being worked on. Suggestions/ideas are welcome, and do drop in your own contribution as well.
Cheers -

Re: Workplace Confessional. (community-edited)
Looks really nice, but I pressed submit to see the error handling, and instead the form submitted an empty form :-(
Sorry about that….!

Ah, so it was you! Heh, not a problem. I opened up the site and panicked after realizing that there were absolutely no error checks put in place. Thanks for the head’s up – they’re in now. ;)

that ‘invite’ section seems kind of odd. you’re supposed to put in your actual email username and password? i realize its highly doubtful you’re harvesting accounts but i dont think any user would want to provide that info regardless..
