haslayout, floats, and positioning

I’m having what I believe to be haslayout issues here. with our good friend IE 6.
I’ve tried the traditional height:1 % to no avail, and the overflow:auto works to set the .main-list column into its correct place, but I get scroll bars when I set overflow auto.

Does anyone have any better solutions?

I’m using a conditional css here to control the issues.

Matthew

Re: haslayout, floats, and positioning

hey matthew

i’m not very good at diving into other ppls code but i just played around so let me know how it goes:

i added

.sub-title {
margin-right:-362px;
}

to your ie.css. it seemed to have cleared up the scrollbar issue (i only got the horizontal scrollbar in ie7) and the overlapping position in ie6 where the right column/lists were sitting right on top of the subheadings.

its a quick, dirty fix at a glance and not sure if its ‘proper’ or fits with your style/level of standards but maybe its a start!

Re: haslayout, floats, and positioning

iblastoff,
Well done. That did the trick.
I’ve not installed IE7 on parrallels yet, but hope to shortly.

Ultimately, this is work best left to the uber pros, considering I’m a better designer/salesman, than a coder.

I appreciate your help.

Re: haslayout, floats, and positioning

Hi Matthew. I hope you don’t mind, but I couldn’t resist to post a few things I’d consider improvable in what is otherwise a very elegant website.

The titles of the sections aren’t very eloquent – except for “home” and “contact” you never really know what to expect. I like to have a little surprise, but this is entirely hindering me in finding what i’d be looking for. I’d keep something cheeky for the “extras” tab, but if I’m looking for your portfolio, don’t play “left hand or right hand?” with me :) “Get started” and “contact” seem a bit redundant too.

Header looks a bit squashed there. Logo could be bigger too.

The copy is generally good. A bit predictable, but good. “And we love what we do. We think you’ll be able to tell.” is a bit weak and useless though.

Vertical spacing and the amount of white space are irreproachable.

But mate; you should align stuff. Use a grid, based on the menu for instance. Currently it separates the page in 8 columns, but that’s usually not considered to be very dynamic (too symmetrical). Uneven numbers and multiples of three are best. Quick mock-up with 7 columns, and some of the above.
