Apache server document root problem using MAMP 1.6
Hi
Working my way thru the excellent Textpattern Solutions book to set up localhost server on OS X 10.4.9 using MAMP 1.6 with view to developing on my own machine after succesfull test for client of Textpattern on hosts server etc
Port changes (page40) recommended all OK with Apache 80 and MySQL 3306 , however when attempt to change Apache document root from /Applications/MAMP/htdocs to /Users/smm(ie username)/Sites the Apache server fails to start. MySQL remains OK
Been thru the mill looking for a solution on MAMP site plus many others ! Any help would be appreciated as this is all new stuff to me !
many thanks

Re: Apache server document root problem using MAMP 1.6
I’m not an OSX user, so I am not sure, but when it says “username” does that refer to your OS login name (I think it does)? If so, is what you’re entering for a username correct, and the Sites directory definitely exists?

Re: Apache server document root problem using MAMP 1.6
After re-checking the path am today problem solved !
For the ‘username’ I had entered the OSX ‘login’ as indeed you have suggested ie ‘smm’ whereas in fact the file path is in fact /Users/smmsmm/Sites with the ‘smmsmm’ actually the folder name taken from the ‘shortname’ in the system preferences. Quite why the ‘shortname’ is different from the ‘login’ name I do not know but suffice to say I should have checked the file path before posting !
Once again thank you for your help – more diligence required on my part.
