Re: Got my copy of Textpattern Solutions today
I agree with Alexandra, the book is excellent!
It’s hands down THE reference for anyone getting started with TXP – I wish I’d had it a year ago, but better late than never :-)
I also like the fact that the authors took the time to look at related issues such as setting up local testing environments with XAMP and MAMP – the platform-agnostic approach in general adds a lot of value to the book.
And then there’s the fantastic Textile reference that reveals a lot of gems I wasn’t aware of.
Anyway, for me this book proves the fact that a hard copy reference beats online resources anytime, especially when I think of all the hours I spent browsing the FAQs etc. and compile them into a searchable PDF.
Cheers Martin

I bought it too—just skimmed it so far. Looks really good. Hoping to buy copies for my clients—let’s keep it in print.

Re: Got my copy of Textpattern Solutions today
For those producing Textpattern sites for clients (like me), the book is a good resource if they want to learn more about the system. For some, I just produce a simple Word file going over the process of adding an article, but for the ones wanting to get their hands dirty, the book is great because it explains why things work the way they do, not just how.

Re: Got my copy of Textpattern Solutions today
Just started reading the book a few days ago. I must say, after a good start I am completely puzzled right now trying to figure out the txp tags. In my opinion the author did a sloppy job explaining the presentation part regarding the txp tags, not very noob proof – at all. I will however not give up and am sure that things will get clearer later on. Don’t take this as a criticism, just an opinion of someone who never used a cms before and has no knowledge about scripting.

Re: Got my copy of Textpattern Solutions today
maybe this will help a little with understanding textpatterns presentation model
on another note, anyone know why the book isn’t mentioned at all on txpmag.com? not in an article, not even in the books section! i wrote to the author(s) about this via their contact form several weeks ago with no reply. shrug

Sadly TXPMag didn’t update for a while at all. It takes quite some time though, and I guess Alexandra has better things to do.
