Author Information, Management and Custom Fields

Hello All,

I am looking for something that TextPattern does not support for authors … but ofcourse It must be possible through plugins of which I don’t know about yet.

My site is a multi-author site and I have will have lot of authors. Ofcourse when this the case I want a complete profile for them. What I want is that If someone clicks their name from “ posted by: author name “ from any article they can see their full profile.

In a profile, I need:-

- a picture
- url – a link associated with the author
- email
- website
- and some custom fields as his bio, where the following things are shown as individual fields:- – his interest – his education – his job offers … – etc

– so here i just need to show his small CV, so i need to put as many custom fields as I want here as his bio.

- All his posts links with dates
- His last post date
- and his comments.

Since all the author will self-register, I also need that they can write these things on their own as they register.

I know this is quite big, but it is truly a very cool thing to be implemented in a multi-author site. I would be very thankful for any help.

P.S. I saw two plugins 1). rss_author_info and 2). mem_self_register

They do some of the thing I mentioned up.

Thanking you in anticipation,
Faisal Khan

Re: Author Information, Management and Custom Fields

I suggest you contact Mary directly. She has made a plug-in for a private project (also partly privately funded) which will do all you want from self-registering through to custom user profiles. It requires a few hacks to the source code but nothing major. If you combine it with the patches mentioned in this thread you have a fully functional multi-author site where each user has their own blog back-end and can’t meddle with each others articles, images and files. The main admin can view all articles/images/files and all user profiles. I imagine Mary will want some payment for it but it is worth it. Her work was speedy, excellent and exacting and there are few people who know the internal workings of txp as well as she does.

Thanks Jakob,

I went to her site but I couldn’t see any such plugin. Anyhow I contacted her … let’s see what she says …

I really hope that I find any such thing …

Re: Author Information, Management and Custom Fields

I’ve always thought a good trick would be to make each author profile an “article.” Then you have several large fields, an image, a thumbnail, custom fields, etc. And you enter them in a section called “authors” and you have tags to display them on the site.

PS. This would be helpful for TXPhorum, which is the reason I was thinking about it.

Re: Author Information, Management and Custom Fields

In one site of mine I use a section for authors and an article for any author profile. Then I wrote a really small plugin (bos_author) that let you link author name to the article profile in the specified section (to be used in articles form).

This doesn’t fully fit your need. Doesn’t cover self registration and doesn’t assure they wrote the article before publishing other pieces. But if Mary doesn’t release her plugins this could be a viable solution, or a temporary one.
