Seeing Double
Today does not seem to be my day. First I try to import my WordPress and I get stumped on what to fill in for mysql host (to which I still have received no answer, hint, hint) and now I’m having a bit of a template problem. It looks good and seems to be cross compatible, but for some reason, my entries are reading like this:
Example: The Quick Brown Fox Jumped Over The Lazy Dog
Example: The Quick Brown Fox Jumped Over The Lazy Dog
Basically, on each entry I have… two copies of the body of the entry… when I go in to edit the original post it looks fine, one copy, perfectly intact, but when I view the site there’s two. I’m really stumped as I have never ran into this problem before. I think I should mention that this is not the first template I tried. It’s the second. I had all the forms, pages and stylesheet done, and all the images uploaded when I gave up on making my first template work, so that may (although it’s unlikely) something from that template didn’t get deleted like it should’ve.

Re: Seeing Double
shoutlove,
Somewhere in there, you’ve got the article being called twice. Without any more information than you gave in your post, I can’t help more than that, but one thing you could do is to see what field the text that’s being repeated is in (ie, is it the title of the article? the body?). Then you’ll want to find where in the Page or called Forms you’ve got the corresponding txp:tag (ie, <txp:title /> if it’s the title, or <txp:body /> if it’s the body).
It’s a bit of sleuthing. What section is the article in? What Page is assigned to the section? How are the articles being called by that page? Is it a standard <txp:article /> tag? Or is an article tag that calls a specific form, like this: <txp:article form="some_form" />? What is in Form “some_form”?
Somewhere along the line you’ll discover that it’s being called twice. Hope that helps. Could just be confusing, but unless you can post some more information, that’s all I’ve got.

Viewing the tagtrace helps to diagnose such problems.

Re: Seeing Double
Hi Ben,
So I changed my theme due toa completely unrelated problem and the double-body thing went away… almost. See, now it doesn’t show up on the front page (only excerpts do) but now the first paragraph of posts show up twice when you click to view the whole post. What should I be looking for to make it go away? I’m not seeing any double calls for anything, needless to say I’m all kinds of confused.

Re: Seeing Double
Hi, you can view the tag trace here:

It was rather long and I didn’t know what to admit and have to get to work. Hope that helps!

Re: Seeing Double
What page are you seeing this on? ‘cuz I can’t see it anywhere on your site?
You’ll need to copy the tag trace from the page where it happens.

i see it. the excerpt in the article list is slapped on top of the individual article with the left white border. in the html i can see <div class=“excerpt”> blahblhablh heres the excerpt </div>.
after looking around it seems like that theme includes rss_auto_excerpt as well which is supposed to automate excerpts for you but also falls back to a user-entered excerpt if thats your choice. the theme might not have taken that into consideration?
are you typing a separate “excerpt” portion when you’re writing up an article? if so, try deleting your own excerpt for that article. you’ll get an auto-generated excerpt on the front of the page but it should get rid of the ‘double excerpt’ inserted in the individual article. i dont know much about this theme but its worth a shot.

Re: Seeing Double
I’m not writing up an excerpt myself, I never do… It’s automatically done in the theme where only 20 lines or words or something are visible on the front page.

Re: Seeing Double
Ah.
It looks like your article lists use the same article form as individual articles. You will need to wrap the responsible plugin tag in an if_article_list tag. You should be able to find it by making a tag trace of a given individual article page, see what article form is being used, then look through that form.
