Shortening Massive Category List

Hi everyone, I seem to be having more than my fair share of problems this weekend! Anyway. I changed from my last template and finally managed to import my WP thanks to the help of these forums. Problem is, WP and TXP handle categories… well, differently. Long story short, I had a lot of categories in WP and that’s turned into one ginormous list in TXP. For WP there was a plugin that shortened the list and then gave you the option to expand it is you needed it to be expanded. Basically, it looked short and sweet and I wasn’t bothered by having 70-odd categories. Well, I’ve searched google and various TXP plugin sites to no avail, so I’m hoping there’s a chunk of code I can insert to make it shorter. The problem isn’t having them all listed on my archive page (http://shoutlove.org/archive I think), my problem is having them all listed on the main page and every other page (where they’re listed beneath the article, under the navigation bar)… It looks hideous and makes for a tedius amount of scrolling down to my links list and video section.

So I’m looking for either a plugin that does it or a chunk of code, I’m not picky, I don’t care which. But please, in the case of code, could you tell me where I should put it?

Thanks so much!

- Ali

One way is to handcode your ‘selected’ categories in your page template. Another might be to change the category tree in your categories menu into parent and children.

Re: Shortening Massive Category List

How would I handcode my selected categories in my page template? And in case I decide to go the other way, how would I change the category tree to parents and children? Thanks!
