What about an import function txp to txp?
To import an existing txp-database from another server could be useful when someone wants to prepare a change of his provider – or to mirror the db in a backup.
Sure, to export a complete db is not that difficult – even with my limited mysql-knowledges I’ve already done it in a rude way, but a more automatic (and save) way over the admin’s tab could simplify this a lot.

It’s more of a mysql job. But I think a plugin could do the trick, and I’m pretty sure at least one plugin exist for this.
But you may want to be more precise. Important/export imply [of content], meaning preferences, options, maybe even authors, aren’t exported and imported. Is that what you are looking for?

Yes, even with the authors, right.
In my concrete case: I want to move an existing txp-installation with all its content to another server. To install there another txp-instance and import all the contents from the old one seems to be a possible way.
[Sure this is more than a little mysql job – therefore I’d like to have a safer method to do this ;)]

You can run raw mysql queries but it also has an interface where you can backup your db (mysql dump) and then import it back on again.
Just go to Extensions> db backup. The interface is very user friendly.
Having said that, it doesn’t seem to work for me on txd but I do have the plugin installed to repair table overheads.

ahh, right, I guess I knew that, just was looking for a way to avoid using an ftp client to get the previously dumped sql to a point where it can be imported (I assume it needs to be in the place where rss_a.d. dumps the other backups.)

I sometimes use files/ for dumps. I can load them from the file tab then. BTW, you don’t want to download .sql from admin manager. I mean – the TXP admin footer is added to every dump here (gzipped is fine). As those dumps are ok as files on server, scp/ftp is best tool for moving dumps.
Why I’m currently interested in this is because I have to combine two dbs of articles and separate one section to a new TXP installation. What I quickly looked at it, dumps aren’t the way of doing this. Which brings us back to thread’s first question: import.

I’d like to have a special import for articles.
The following scenario: There is a common event-database, which contains basic event data for my clients, spreading their data over different sites.
They can include it’s output in their own websites by a link and iFrame (or so – the output is defined by the database and it generates three nested tables).
Now I do websites for them in textpattern using articles for an event calendar. Each article can contain more than the event-database. And the articles are integrated into the whole site structure. So I don’t want to have only an iFrame and output within my sites.
Now it’s not very friendly to enter those data twice.
For an easier input (and my clients wanting to take both services) I’d like to take an exported file (the event-database provides that) with information about events into txp:
Each event should generate a new article and put its information in the right places. Then my clients could continue work within txp and use its benefits.
But it should be possible to “update”, means: compare, if an event is already present in txp.
The events come with an ID, so it could be tested if they have already been imported before.
Is there any plugin or idea or concept that will take lists, files or data into articles in txp?
