I’m all ears for suggestions re:branding for the next release.
We understand that this is an important issue for agencies and freelancers which provides them with a competitive advantage – this is a target we want to support.
Prior to 4.0.5, changing both the size and the visual appearence of the “branding” area required you to hack a php file. Now this is lifted into a more visible location, but this doesn’t mean it has to stop here.
Understanding, of course, that this will fall under the realm of the redone admin interface, as well as the fact that 4.0.x is supposed to be essentially closed for new features, so 4.0.x can see changes but nothing terribly sweeping.

Re: Feedback on Textpattern 4.0.5 release
For branding, how about a heading or paragraph with Phark image replacement? To change the background image, just upload your logo and edit the CSS file.
Also… what’s the big deal about admin branding? I know this is a big deal for some people/companies, but I don’t really understand why. What am I missing?

I got on another server the message in the diag-tab that some php functions are missing:
phpinfo, phpcredits, escapeshellarg, escapeshellcmd, proc_close, proc_get_status, proc_nice, proc_terminate, virtual, ini_alter, php_ini_scanned_files, memory_get_usage, show_source, mbstring
are they crucial or very important?
You got the same warning in 4.0.4. TXP doesn’t need those specific functions.

Hmm, what’s sweeping? And where goes the line between new feature and improvement? Or is this “depends on the patches we get” thing? What are the things we will never see in 4.0.x but in 4.1.x.? Which raises question “when 4.1.x is due?” Will we see 4.0.6 before it?
(my guesses: loosing backward compability, on water, perhaps, many, not soon, most likely)
Branding is kewl. Built-in file/image permissions would be even more. Or am I the only one having more than one user in my TXP installations?

Soo.. If I read that right, it comes to “we need more patches to keep both moving”?

Past a certain point, a piece of software can’t do everything for you (or your clients) without becoming cumbersome. While I agree that fine-grained permissions would be very useful, the image access issue could also be handled as a matter of internal site maintenance policy: “Jill writes the articles, and Bob handles the graphics. Don’t mess with stuff that isn’t yours.”

That’s been my impression. I imagine it’s especially true of Crockery (the 4.1.x branch) because there’s so much more to accomplish there.

No – it wont. Also “you can’t delete this image, it isn’t yours” won’t make TXP a manatee on land. Or do you find current article permissions cumbersome? I find them quite obvious.
While I agree that fine-grained permissions would be very useful,
Umm. fine-grained? I’m not suggesting ALCs, I want behaviour similar to articles.

That’s plain silly, sorry.
If one is stretching “unlimited authors” (read: more than 2) file and image tabs just have to be disabled IRL.

May I kindly ask you to keep this thread on topic (some of us have subscribed to it on purpose) and rely on this forum’s abilites to care for an infinite amount of both new and old threads, each of them covering an issue which appeals to a section of the audience?

Re: Feedback on Textpattern 4.0.5 release
Branding How-tos are much more relevant than basics just missing after release after release? And isn’t that ironical – the thread you linked to is under Expired threads. Point taken, 4.0.5 is awesome. EOD.

Re: Feedback on Textpattern 4.0.5 release
Admin is being redone in crockery. It’s not a phantom, and it doesn’t depend upon patches, but it will be done when it is done. There are other things that simply take a higher priority, such as: fixing the broken lang server, getting more help docs done, re-doing the main site and forum, technical support for users, etc, etc, etc. Getting 4.0.5 out the door was one, now that’s complete. Let’s not start the same old ridiculousness again, that just does the exact opposite of what you want accomplished.

I know the few can sometimes absorb your time and attention, and frustrate and discourage. Even when its not intentional.
Sometimes the silent majority needs to speak up more often, and louder! :)
All of you are doing a great job. Thank you.

Re: Feedback on Textpattern 4.0.5 release
I’ve upgraded a couple of sites to 4.0.5 and have encountered no problems to speak of. Lovely work even all my plugins seem to work without any problems. Excellent stuff all along.
