How do I show only an excerpt in article lists?

Hi all,

Have some little problem here, please help me or give me any idea for this. Well i’ve create a site with TEXTPATTERN included (of course!). The main/index page (www.example.com) is only displaying 2 articles (new post and previous post), for more easier maybe you can see the screenshoot on:

As you can see on screenshot that i provide, you must see the FULL article’s content in there. And the problem is how to make automatically limitation words for displaying in home/index page (www.example.com)? So if visitor want to read FULL article’s content, visitor click “read more” button. Below are example (the structure) what i want;;

I think theres only my problem right now, and hope somebody can help me to resolve. Anyway, is my question are clear for you? mean, easy to understand. Sorry for my english language.
