Re: MLP - The Multi-Lingual Publishing Pack
Great, it works, but there is still an other problem: The pulldown window in the menu bar shows only the default language. And furthermore I’ve insralled 3 languages: english, spanish and german, but in MLP there are only spanish and german. I’ve downloaded all the 3 .txt files into the /lang folder.
Thanks for the great work!

I’m working on this bug and will hopefully have a fix next week – time permitting.

Which bugs are you talking about? Which should I prioritise?

Re: MLP - The Multi-Lingual Publishing Pack
Hi Graeme,
Sorry thought you might remember, as we corresponded by email ;-)
Let me go through what I see again (maybe others will chip in with their issues):
1. Only one language (English GB) appears in the Admin drop down box (next to “Go” menu), but I have 4 languages installed. So, even though I have Spanish as the default MLP language (in preferences), and also have Spanish as the default language in TXP language preferences, when I move between TXP tabs, English tabs re-appear
2. On public side, I find when switching between languages, many times I get a blank screen. Re-submit or refresh, the page comes up.
3. BIG problem with categories and sections. The categories have titles in default (Spanish) and En-GB, French and German. Enter some data in the Eng/Fr/Deu fields and save. The data is saved to the DB (I checked) but not shown in TXP, nor in the txp_category tags on the public side.
4. Sections – similar to categories, except that only section title (Espanol) appears. The other 3 language titles don’t appear.
5. Same as above with image titles in the various languages. The titles and captions do not appear after save, but do appear in the DB, so are written correctly.
I have not tested files yet.
Environment:
MySQL 5.040
PHP 5.20
Hope this helps, let me know if you need anything else…!!

Re: MLP - The Multi-Lingual Publishing Pack
Edited:
I installed clean TXP 4.0.5 and than upload MLP files (rewrite txplib_db.php) and installed latest MLP (with success – at least nothing looked bad) but than on “write” page and on “files” page and on the “images” page appeared for example this error – in translation – I cannot find file ‘txp_category.MYI’ (error code 2)…
So I looked into mysql and “content” of txp_file and txp_category where gone and txp_image didn’t work…
I copied SQL of txp_file and txp_category from txp 4.0.4 with MLP and now everything is working… (txp_image I didn’t solved yet)
Can somebody find another solution?
Edited again:
I tried clean installation of TXP 4.0.5 and latest MLP (without rewriting txplib_db.php) and everything is clear… this appeared:
Localise fields in content tables…
Add the `txp_category.l10n_title_cs_cz` field : Failed
Add the `txp_file.l10n_description_cs_cz` field : Failed
Add the `txp_image.l10n_alt_cs_cz` field : Failed
Add the `txp_image.l10n_caption_cs_cz` field : Failed
Add the `txp_link.l10n_description_cs_cz` field : Failed
Add the `txp_section.l10n_title_cs_cz` field : Failed

Re: MLP - The Multi-Lingual Publishing Pack
Just in addition to previous poster, I have problem with creating tables too:
…
Add the per-language article tables…
1. Add the Русский [l10n_txp_ru_ru] table : Failed
2. Add the Українська [l10n_txp_uk_ua] table : Failed
3. Add the English (US) [l10n_txp_en_us] table : Failed
I’ve tried 4.0.5, 4.0.4 version, tried to make virtual host, tried updating apache+php+mysql – nothing helped. Tried searching this forum – in MLP thread this problem appeared up to 5 times – no help from author, still… I have Apache 2.0.59 + PHP 4.4.7 + MySQL 4.1.22…

Re: MLP - The Multi-Lingual Publishing Pack
@everyone
I’ve been making notes for all these issues and will be working on them when I can give them the time needed. But at the moment time is very limiting – things will ease up come August – but then again I always seem to be saying that!
As for Steve – he’s been away from home for the last 5 months. The other week had a chance to meet up face to face and talk about the future of MLP. Basically he can’t devote the time and effort he once could into the plugin.
I’m looking at opening up the development of MLP to others and talking more with the Team Textpattern regarding getting changes into the core code which would make MLP less of a patch for Textpattern, less buggy and easier for me and others to maintain.
If any one is interested in leading a helping hand then please let me know – Thanks.

Re: MLP - The Multi-Lingual Publishing Pack
Could you please briefly sum up what would make the core MLP aware (either here or via mail to txp-dev [at] textpattern.com)?

Did a little bit of debugging on this (annoying) issue. ‘get_installation_langs’ gets called several times throughout the execution cycle and produces correct results. However, when called from ‘_l10n_inject_switcher_form’ the function returns meaningless result. Turns out that down the call stack, the global $DB object gets lost and in particular in `safe_query` function the database link is inaccessible. I couldn’t figure out where or why the $DB object gets lost, but here is an ugly hack to `safe_query` that makes the problem go away.
If anyone finds the real culprit, please post your findings.
in textpattern/lib/txplib_db.php function safe_query(...) { global $DB,$txpcfg, $qcount, $qtime, $production_status; if (!$DB) $DB = new DB; // <- Ugly hack $method = (!$unbuf) ? 'mysql_query' : 'mysql_unbuffered_query'; ... }
