A redesign, but how?

Txp has powered mistersugar.com for more than 4 years now, and I’ve finally hired a designer to help me spruce up the site. But what’s the best way to implement my new design and keep all of the great plugins you all have given me to use? Should I just swap in the new styles and change the tags? Or should I backup and then start with a clean install? Suggestions? Tutorials? Please point me to any previous discussions or posts that might share your strategy.

Re: A redesign, but how?

Just swap out styles and HTML (and rearrange TXP code as needed).

  1. Backup your database
  2. Mirror your site locally
  3. Modify your template’s HTML and TXP code
  4. MySQL dump/export
  5. Import MySQL db to live site, change any file paths as needed

You could do all this live too, but local setups are faster.

Thanks, jm. All that looks familiar to me except the local mirror. Don’t think I’ve ever done this. I’ll search for tips on that now.

I often misunderstand the problems and the solutions here, but jm might be referring to this procedure:

Re: A redesign, but how?

Thanks, all. From the Textpattern Solutions book I found a tutorial on installing MAMP and running Txp locally. Working well now.
