Two users editing an article simultaneously! -- possible to lock?

Hi all,

Just getting into TXP for implementing into a site I’m working on….
and it look/runs great ………….until I just realized that it really drops the ball when two users open the same article at the same time and make edits!!
Two content writers can easily overwrite each other’s edits!

I know versioning/version tracking is waay off and difficult to implement but is it possible to have just a article_lock flag set when someone opens an article for editing so the next user gets a warning message or whatever?…..

I’m not implementing TXP into a site with a large editor-base, but still, the scenario where one person opens an article to make edits while someone else has it open is definately in the realm-of-possibility.

Serious roadblock to me launching this! Any suggestions or plugins anyone knows of — please share!

Thanks

I haven’t tried this myself, but perhaps this will help: md_versions plugin

There are seldom 2 users on one text… permissions might be of help to you…

But when there are, you have one angry user. The Frontstretch has five editors and occasionally, two get into the same article. One workaround is to edit the title so that it shows that someone is editing that article. It’s low tech, but it usually works. The other thing we do is make sure that if you are editing an article, you’re logged into AIM so that the other editors can communicate with you.

A check out system would be nice though.

Re: Two users editing an article simultaneously! -- possible to lock?

‘locking’ an article is pretty useless if both editors are already logged in to edit the same article. what happens when two editors log in to edit an unlocked article? the speedier editor of the two would lock it, and the other wouldn’t even know about it since hes already at the edit article window. it would still result in one ‘angry’ user attempting to edit an article and when he/she decides to save it, they find out its been locked moments earlier by another editor.

your editors talking/aim’ing each other seems the best way to go about it anyway. if you have 5 editors going all out on random articles then perhaps some structure/organization are needed on their part.

either way, the possible solutions presented by ruud/colak might be what you’re looking for.

I’ve made a plugin request that I think would fix this.
