How do i change domain name of my textdrive textpattern site.
I figure someone here must have done this. sorry if its ot but im in a jam.
How do i change domain name of a fully functional textpattern site hosted on a textdrive virtual server? The site is live somewhere else and the client doesnt want downtime.
This is my understanding of the process. Do i have the order right?
1. Repoint the dns (on the registrar side)
1.5 backup site
2. Change the domain name in the webmin AND LEAVE setting on “Automatically chosen directory” NOT “Leave as /users/home/kvnmcwebn/domains/eaf.textdriven.com”
3. cross fingers
Again sorry if this is ot but i dont feel 100% comfortable doing this from textdrives online documentation-also i havnt heard back from the support or the forum on it.

Typically what I do for migrating sites to new hosting service
- Build site on new host
- Debug new site
- Back up Site
- Redirect DNS
- enjoy
In your instance it sounds like you just need to confirm the main directory in textpattern before launching; so if your address on textdrive was 69.100.100.63 and you listed that as the site address in TXP just change that to the actual domain name. Worst case scenario some one goes to mydomain.com and then it takes them to the active 69.100.100.63 its an easy fix in the admin panel.
It is usually a pretty smooth process.
