Moderated comments suddenly stop sending admin email
I’m having an odd problem I was hoping some sharp mind could help me solve. After more than a year and a half of running with all comments moderated, I suddenly stopped receiving email notification along with each new comment. Nothing appears to have changed in the administration settings (moderated comments are on; mail comments to author is on) and no changes have been made to the plug-in line-up for months.
I tried changing the admin user’s email address a couple of times with no joy, and made sure the email account is valid and working as it has been. I’ve double-checked everyplace I could think of to make sure no path was invalid. At this point, I’m stumped.
Other factors that don’t seem like they should have anything to do with it but what do I know?: The site (www.fortbendnow.com) is starting to bet pretty heavy use, and there are more than 14,000 comments in the database, with 11,000 or more daily visits.
Meanwhile, the comments are showing up in the que as they should, awaiting moderation. It’s just that I have to check periodically to see if any are there because the email notification, as of yesterday, stopped working.
Any ideas?

Check the mail server logs.
