default page overruling all

Hi,

I’m new to all this so excuse me if this is just me being thick!

I setup my textpattern last week and all was working brilliantly. I had two sections with different page formats and all was good. I must have done something as I tried to set up a third section, because now no matter what the default section overrules all page lay-outs.

For example if a section called ‘news’ using a page ‘news’ and the ‘default’ section uses page ‘default’ I go to mysite/news it will display the page in the format ‘default’

If I change the ‘default’ section to display the page ‘news’ then it will display in the format of ‘news’, but then this leaves me only one style of page.

Any ideas as to what I have done to mess it all up??

This may be a clean urls problem. Try switching to messy and see if that fixes it.

Thanks Mary, I was on messy but changing it to clean has actually fixed that problem. It’s created another in that I just get the default page when I put in a clean address ie mysite.com/section/title. I’ve tried changing the .htaccess to rectify this but it doesn’t seem to have worked as yet. I shall keep on trying but at least the first problem is fixed!

Try uncommenting the DirectoryIndex and Options +FollowSymLinks directives in your .htaccess.

Messy urls should always work properly, so if they aren’t it’s a good idea to try and fix it.

Yeah I tried uncommenting those but that didn’t work either. I was of the impression that messy should always work, but for the life of me I can’t work out why the default section overules all when messy is on. I’ll keep plugging away!

Can you post your “high” diagnostics results please? If you change your Production mode to debugging, do you get any errors/warnings on the admin-side?

Sorry been away for a few days. No errors on the admin side. Have left it on clean as it solves the short term problem. High diagnostics is below.
