Re: Textplates '07 Launch

Call me a purist but frankly I think the requirement should have been that it adhere to web standards. If the browser can’t manage that – that’s the browser’s fault. This just helps perpetuate the “best viewed in” mindset.

Re: Textplates '07 Launch

I will second mrdale and hcgtv. IMHO, the plugin is perfect for this competition.

For those who want to convert their templates to suit the plugin, I found Bulk Rename Utility

Just install hcg plugin, go to Extensions, put a suitable name in the “Name this export” box, and export. Then use BRU to add a prefix to the exported files. BRU makes it very simple. ( you just use Add 7 to put your prefix. )

You then will have to go into the content of the forms, pages and style and add the prefix here and there. That’s the hardest part, but well worth it because everyone will very quickly be able to see the templates at work, and by having the prefix it will make it distinct and it won’t interfere with existing files.

Nyteowl,
I personally don’t know anyone who is a professional web developer who has this attitude (to be frank :).
I would not make any money as a freelancer if I didn’t mantain an attitude that webstands is a continuum (Zeldman quote).

Thame,
I’m psyched about this competition. I’m glad to see you got so many contributors. Well done bro.

Matthew

Re: Textplates '07 Launch

Somebody of textplates clear this: is it allowed to make templates public (i mean let other people use them) while the contest is not over? For example, i’ve designing a couple of templates for txp community and for textplates too, should I wait for end of event to release them?

pospel:

That’s fine. Once the templates are submitted, they’ll be added to the directory (and hopefully a preview browser) where anyone will be able to download and use them.

Re: Textplates '07 Launch

Thame, thank you a lot for your great efforts to make this wonderful event happen. The previous Textplates was absolutely amazing and the current one seems to become even better (a lot).

I’m only wondering if it’s OK for me to participate again as I’m the winner of the previous contest (though I think the whole community was the real winner).

Oh no, I’m not participating if Vladimir is going to be in it also, he always wins ;)

Re: Textplates '07 Launch

Bert, the hcg_templates-0.3 plugin that I have uses ‘templates’, ‘html’ and ‘css’. But the one on your txpide site uses ‘_templates’, ‘page’, ‘form’ and ‘style’. This could cause some problems if different people use different versions. Please could you decide on one version before everyone uses it for the textplates?

Re: Textplates '07 Launch

zero, use the one on the TxP IDE site, you must have gotten an early version.

hcg_templates 0.3

Re: Textplates '07 Launch

Thanks, Bert. I got my version from your TxPun wiki via the thread in the Packaged designs forum about Theme mechanism

In your recommended version, is there any good reason why you use
_templates instead of just templates? I can’t create a directory with the underscore before it, and it seems an unnecessary step for people to edit the plugin.

Edit: I can now create directories beginning with an underscore. For some reason, when I first wrote this comment, I was getting a message about ‘unable to create directory’, although I had no problem when not using the underscore. Strange things happen…

Re: Textplates '07 Launch

Hi Vladimir! That was a good year for redesigns! Your Solitary Thoughts site was quite stunning! Glad to see you in this time too. There’ve been a lot of great TXP sites lately so I think the standard this year will be even higher than the last one. If anyone fancies their chances of winning they’ll have to work twice as hard now that you’re in it! I look forward to seeing your entry!
