Index.php how do I get to design the site I want
I would be grateful if any of you could point me in the right direction, what do I have to do in order to get rid of the default homepage and be able to write my own. I did try simple copy and pasting over ‘index.php’ but I got an error 404 message.
Any constructive help would be appreciated.

No you must not touch index.php. Instead, head over to the “page” tab, and edit the default page if you need to change anything there.
Also, look at the styles page to change the CSS.
You are able to edit anything you wish, but first, take some time to see how TXP works:
1. Articles form the foundation of content
2. Forms are used to display custom or constant content – a header or a footer for example
3. Pages render the XHTML – think of it as a template
4. Styles for adjusting the positioning and styling of elements
5. Use TXP tags such as <txp: article /> to display your content, written in articles
Check out TextBook for more information.

All the site’s design is created and maintained through the Textpattern admin interface, you don’t/can’t mess with the actual files that power it.
