[plugin] [ORPHAN] ako_spellCheker [sic]

ako_spellCheker sic
Bringing the Speller Pages javascript based spell checker to Textpattern.

Howdy all. Here’s another plugin from myself, based off this hack by Champak. This plugin adds two small links on the write tab for checking the spelling of both the body and excerpt sections of text that you’re writing for your brand new super cool article. Currently, you’ll need to download the Speller Pages script and upload it to the root of your site. Once this is done, you need only activate the plugin to get your spell checking links. Hopefully in future versions I will remove this dependancy, but for now, it’s there. As well, this plugin will currently only work with rev ≥ 1293, as that’s when id’s were given to both the excerpt and body textarea’s in the write tab.

Also note that this script works off aspell, so if you / your host doesn’t have aspell, it won’t work.

Download v.2
More info (Coming soon. Check the help file for now).

As always, I’m open to suggestions / feature req’s / ideas / monies / food / almost anything.

An alternative way of spelchecking is SpellBound, a Mozilla Firefox/Thunderbird/Seamonkey extension. The latest beta release works seamlessly with FF 1.5.x (the official release is compatible with FF 1.0.x).

Looks great, can’t wait for it to become a self contained plugin :¬)

I got this to work at TXD, but it doesn’t like hak_tiny_mce. It won’t find errors unless you turn off the editor first. Any ideas?

I’ve got Mary’s facelift installed and the spellcheck links on the write tab don’t show up. Is this something that you would have the time to look into?

Many thanks,
Lee

I’m running the other facelift theme and I get the links just fine. But I also need to switch off the tinymce editor to get spelling to actually function properly.

Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] ako_spellCheker [sic]

Interesting that one of you can use the facelift and the other can’t. I really couldn’t say what is going on there.

One thing that I do assume is that the TinyMCE is massively changing the DOM, which screws this plugin up, as it requires the page to be just as is to insert the links in the correct position.

Uhm… When finals are done (a week or so), I’ll try to take a looks at it, however I give no promises—I am by no means anywhere near a JS master.

Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] ako_spellCheker [sic]

Hey all – here’s an update for 4.0.4 compatability (which we can assume as coming out w/in the next few days, hopefully). Nothing much else really. (Ooh, it also looks really good with 4.0.4.. mmm…)

Download v.2

If anyone has any requests or suggestions, as always, I’m more than happy to take ‘em.

Cheers.

Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] ako_spellCheker [sic]

Help!

I have installed the plugin and can see the two new links. I have downloaded the speller pages but this is where I am not sure if I have done the right thing. I unpacked speller pages and uploaded the ‘speller’ folder to the root of my site. So I now have a folder called ‘speller’ sitting at the top level of my site, at the same level as my textpattern folder. I hope that makes sense.

When I click the spell check links nothing happens.

Have I done the right thing with speller?
Maybe aspell is not on my ISP server? What do I need to ask them?

Thanks in advance

Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] ako_spellCheker [sic]

Yeah, it’s quite possible that aspell isn’t on your server. You should check with your host.

Also, and I don’t have the means to check it at the moment, but I’m not sure if you’ve put the speller directory in the right place. There should be something in the documentation about it though.

Re: [plugin] [ORPHAN] ako_spellCheker [sic]

Thanks Ako. I’ll ask them and check the documentation more carefully.
