[request] Plugin Request: File Download ratings
I need a plugin that basically adds the ability for visitors to rate files, on a scale from 1 to 10, and then to have the average rating for a file displayed with something like txp:file_download_rating. I also need file lists to be able to be sorted by rating, as in txp:file_download_list sort="rating desc". I don’t need fancy stars displayed, just simple text output of an integer. Sound easy? Hard?

there is a ratings plugin already in the textgarden site. It uses stars though. Im sure you could intergrate that into your downloads.

moloko, I don’t know how to code jack. How would I integrate a plugin used for article ratings to work on files also? I know it should be simple, which is why I’m asking someone to do it.

can’t you just nest the file download in an article? the people can then rate the article. that’s how i’d do it…

Thanks for your ideas everyone,
I currently associate files with articles using upm_file, and then display all of them by simply putting <txp:upm_article_file_list form="files"> on the page. In the“files” form, I include a link to the file, the number of downloads, the size, and the file description. What I would like the plugin to do, as I said, is to add a rating for each file, and then add the ability to sort file lists by their rating. Ideally, this should be an extension of upm_file. Mary please help!
I would have to work on this for several weeks to convert it to the way you are suggesting, creating an article for each file, just so I can do a hack job of getting a rating for each file. I would still feel icky about using articles this way. If Mary was able to add my requests to her plugin, so that I could just add a couple tags and continue using a single form for all of my files, it would be a much nicer solution. I will have like 100 articles with nothing but a file_download tag in them, which seems very wrong, even if it gives the desired effect. It might be worth it, though.
A couple questions:
1) Using that ratings plugin you mentioned, is it possible to sort article_list’s by article rating?
2) Is it possible to display an article_list within an article?

I talked to Mary, sounds like she will try to incorporate my requested features into upm_file at some point.
