Help with setting up testing page
I loaded textpattern into the root of my main directory of my domain. I changed textpattern’s index.php file to index_tp.php because index.php already existed in my domain root. Where in textpattern do I specify that I’ve changed index.php to index_tp.php so that I can properly view and test my blog as I develop it??
Everything else is set up – databases etc – I just need to figure out the index_tp.php bit because I go to www.mydomain.com/index_tp.cfm I get the textpattern site name, left and right columns – but the middle says 404 not found.
Thanks

Re: Help with setting up testing page
Don’t think you can rename index.php. Better thing to do if you want to test remotely is to put TXP in a sub-directory, then move it over to the root folder when you are happy. At that point, you will need to edit config.php for the correct path, and also the files and images paths in admin preferences.

Re: Help with setting up testing page
Thanks. I created a test directory and moved everything over. However, when I do “view site” it is still showing exactly what was showing before – basically it has the main default textpattern blog wrapper with my title and tagline – but where the blog post should appear it says “404 file not found” . . . and this time, the page does not have any of the styles at all.
In my diagnostics – it says the following:
.htaccess file is missing ?
/home/7871/domains/mydomain.com/html/_0507test/textpattern/setup/ still exists ?
Site URL preference might be incorrect: www.mydomain.com/_0507test ?
Clean URL test failed.
Help!!!!

Re: Help with setting up testing page
Did you edit config.php to change the path? And check if you also moved .htaccess, in some ftp clients it is not visible, so you might forget it.

Re: Help with setting up testing page
The file name is .htaccess. Have a look at this FAQ.

Re: Help with setting up testing page
I added the htaccess file and changed the permanent link mode to messy. Now my blog posts appear – but the CSS is not working. My page has absolutely no styles. What does this mean??
My diagnostics say:
/home/7871/domains/mydomain.com/html/_0507test/textpattern/setup/ still exists ?
Site URL preference might be incorrect: www.mydomain.com/_0507test ?

Re: Help with setting up testing page
And when I view source on my www.mydomain.com/_0507test/index.php file – it is trying to link to the CSS file at the root of my site – not in the _05075test directory – so, where do I specify that my blog is located in my test folder – not at the root of my domain?

Re: Help with setting up testing page
You have to change both the site URL in Admin > Preferences: ‘Site URL’ and the path to your site in config.php. Also accessing your site through the ‘View site’ tab sometimes makes messages in Diagnostics disappear.
And you should delete the ‘setup’ folder.
