Re: Thinking about building an e-commerce plugin...

Levi, I’ve pretty much set up a test site around textcommerce and am eager to import a load of products to start digging deeper into this. Can you come up with a solution for importing products? I still can’t figure out why my csv-files don’t import correctly. I can’t even import the demo csv provided by the plugin. Only the first product shows up no matter what. I’ve been able to import the demo csv once correctly (I don’t know what I did differently), and can’t understand why I can’t do it again.

Re: Thinking about building an e-commerce plugin...

I’ve since tried installing the plugin on a number of other functioning installs of ‘standard’ TxP, and the plugin will not install in any of them. So is this likely to be a language related or some other aspect of TxP or MySQL? My installs of TxP use English (GB) by default.

I find this really strange. Especially since no one else has reported the issue. After you’ve run the install and attempted to install the plugin, can you give me a mysql dump of your txp_plugins table structure, so I can verify what might be causing the issue?

One thing that it sounds like you may be having trouble with is your CSV formatting. I ran into this problem when I was developing the CSV import. Make sure that you’re saving your CSV file with DOS or Unix line endings. What editor are you using to edit the CSV?

To everyone: Here’s the latest on TextCommerce development. I’ve contracted to build a couple of e-commerce sites using TextCommerce. I’ll be releasing all the functionality that comes out of those projects. I’ll be starting development of the first site on Monday. I think this will really speed up feature releases and bug fixes. So be standing by for fixes and new functionality.

I’ll keep everyone posted. Thanks!

Re: Thinking about building an e-commerce plugin...

Levi, the formatting should be ok. Same problem happens with your demo CSV. Currently I’m not getting anywhere testing textcommerce while this problem presists. As said before, I’ve cleaned up the CSV, made sure the formatting is right (tried both DOS and UNIX line endings).

During importing I get a blank screen and nothing else happens. Refreshing the products list shows only the first item added. Looking at the tc code I get the understanding that maybe there’s be an “import finished” screen at the end if everything goes ok?

Thanks Levi – will do.
And the report of speeded up development is great news! Thanks for your commitment to this project – it’s going be a killer when finished!

Levi,

Bravo! I’m psyched. I’m not inclined to say “You go girl” (Dale, did you shake your neck back and forth on that one?)

More ideas:

Products need to have a product description excerpt in list view and longer info in single product view.

Re: Thinking about building an e-commerce plugin...

Anyone,

Any suggestions as to why the alpha plugin won’t install – either on Levi’s ‘hacked’ install of Txp, or a totally clean standard install, or on an existing (and working) install with numerous other plugins?

All I get is ‘Badly formed or empty plugin code.’ The ‘Product display’ plugin installs OK.

Is there something in my version of MySQL (5.0.24) causing problems?

Thanks for any help…

Maybe this is related to the plugin file size. Same thing happened here with the Postmaster plugin. It installed fine on texdrive but refused to install, with the same error, on another host (MySQL5). When the plugin was split in a plugin and a library file all problems where gone.
