Java programming on Mac

Does somebody have experience with Java programming on Mac OS X? I’m looking for a good programme to make my Java school assignments. On Windows I use conTEXT, which has the great ability to compile and run java-files with just two shortcuts. I already tried Xcode, but couldn’t get that to work. Als used Smultron, but it is not optimized for Java.

So just wondering: somebody knows a good, simple mac app for this?

Regards,

Joey
