IE7 problems with white pages

Hello,

I am expiriencing a strange problem with the initial page from this site. Every time you go to an article at first there is a white page loaded. When you refresh the content becomes visible. I don’t have this problem with FF (pc/mac) or Safari, Camino and even IE6. It seems to occur in ie7 only. Anyone got a clue what this is about?

gr and thanks in advance!

Re: IE7 problems with white pages

I don’t see this problem. Could it be a setting in your IE7?

Re: IE7 problems with white pages

Other people I asked also have the same problem. When you initially see to page displayed correctly, try refreshing. Then the white page shows up. When you refresh again it is fine.

Re: IE7 problems with white pages

Thanks! Thought it was an textpattern thing, but since it only affected ie7… The problem seems to be with the JS, but the solutions don’t work for me. It’s getting late. Gonna catch some sleep and work on it tomorrow!

Re: IE7 problems with white pages

One thing I noticed: the JavaScript is not inserted in the right place:

<script src="http://www.noisecontrollers.nl/scripts/swfobject.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="nl">
<head>

It has to be in the head or body. It may not make a difference, but it’s something you could check.

Re: IE7 problems with white pages

Yeah, I know! I just put it there cause some on the ms forum said he had the same problem and it only worked when he put the inline JS before the <head> tag. I tried the code in the html itself, but that won’t work either… Still figuring out why I only expirience this on this particular site…

Re: IE7 problems with white pages

Well, you can always contact Microsoft ;) From their support page:

RESOLUTION
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Internet Explorer 7 service pack that contains this hotfix.

To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Customer Support Services to obtain the hotfix.

:) They don’t seem to realize the problem is somewhat bigger for site builders: you’d have to send all your site’s IE7 using visitors there as well…

Re: IE7 problems with white pages

I don’t really think this is the problem. Another site isn’t coping with these difficulties in ie7. I use the same plugins for the flash (thus the same javascript) and even one script more! And try hitting F5… It keeps refreshing as it should.

Re: IE7 problems with white pages

Now breaks my wooden shoe (to use a Dutch expression). When I put the site’s Production status to testing or debugging the problem is gone. When I set it back to live the problem comes back. Anyone or the wonderfull Els got a new idea?

Re: IE7 problems with white pages

At the mo, there’s an error at the top of the page in IE7, Opera 8.5 and Firefox 2. I’ve never used txp:sed_comment_time, so my only thoughts are:
Should ‘comment-time’ be “comment-time” ?
Is the plugin installed right?

Re: IE7 problems with white pages

@nerja: sorry, I’m not that wonderful :( You’re right, this is very strange… my wooden shoe didn’t survive either ;)
Warning for all foreigners: don’t buy Dutch wooden shoes! Whenever strange things happen, they break…

@zero: I don’t think these notices are very important. I get loads of notices like that about plugin tags when in testing mode, and everything is always working fine.
