MySql trouble when upgrading from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4
Hi,
I ran into some trouble when upgrading one of my sites from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4. After upgrading the website AND the admin-area were full of � – signs instead of åäö. I checked the database and it is an older version of mySql – 3.23.49. Can that have anything to do with this?

Please post your full TXP diagnostics (admin tab -> diagnostics -> select ‘full’ (or something like that))

Your diagnostics show MySQL 5.x, not 3.23.x. Was the MySQL version upgraded as well recently?

I was wrong on that part…
I have managed to fix the admin part by re-installing the language-file. The site is still the problem though.

If you are hosted on TXD you may have to adjust the php.ini setting, as they are UTF-8 by default. Changing it to ISO-whatever-it-is, might work for you.

no I’m not hosted at TDX unfortunately. The biggest question is why this happends all the sudden? I have updated/installed several 4.0.4 systems at this host without a hassle before.
The sql-file is UTF-8
config.php is also set at UTF-8
My meta is set to <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=Utf-8" />
Are there any advantages for me to convert the data to Latin1? Or iso-9959-1?
What to do?

Your problems are not directly related to the update. It’s more likely that something else you did at the same timeframe is responsible.
For example a dump/restore can result in messed up characters, if the defaults are wrong, or if the wrong options have been selected (this goes for phpmyadmin as well as command line tools).

Everything works well now (utf-8) except for a weird thing in Safari. When I klick on a menu item (section), it looks good. When I refresh, all the junk charachters are there…
Anyone heard of this before?
