<obvious>Wow, this is an important resource</obvious>

Anyone know how to capture a local copy of the English pages, when it returns?

Re: [wiki] TextBook down (database error)

Bah it’s up again. The objectcache table keeps breaking and I have unable to find out why. Repairing it seems to bring it all back up.

BTW I started keeping a copy of the wiki under /test-wiki/ so i can try different things on it (you will notice clean URLs in the test wiki). That can always be used in an emergency.

I’d also be very happy to move to dokuwiki, whcih seems much more light weight but I have found no reosurces in migrating data over. If anyone can point me to any I’d be grateful. Alsoif anyone else wants to help out with keeping this beast up and running please don’t hesitate in contacting me.

Re: [wiki] TextBook down (database error)

Oh thank goodness! I’m beginning to realize how much I depend on the wiki, especially the tag listing. I’d help you out if I had the knowledge and the time, unfortunately neither is very available at the moment :( but I’ll keep it in mind for when circumstances change.

Not sure if it does exactly what we need though. I’d love to help out more but i’ve got more work then I can handle at the moment.

If you do decide to one day move to DokuWiki, I can help out. At present, I have so much I’m involved with that learning MediaWiki to keep it running would take too much of my time.

Doku is indeed a leaner wiki, I’ve been using it for many years and have been very pleased with it. There is PunBB authentication plugin, which would enable forum users to edit wiki content, which would go a long way towards more participation.

With PunBB 1.3, I’d like to see an extension that can take a forum post and format it for the wiki. A send to wiki button, sure would help move some of the how-tos over, textile to doku format for this forum, or bbcode to doku for other forums.

Re: [wiki] TextBook down (database error)

I like dokuwiki too, since it is lighter. Does anyone know if either wiki can produce XML content for each page? Once there’s XML available, a weekly-compiled PDF of tags or a tag cheat sheet (kinda like visual jquery) can be produced (by smarter people).

Also, if the wiki is redone, can the tutorials and other articles get listed on the homepage, so it’s more obvious? EX:

Tag Reference

Getting Started

  • Installation
    • System Requirements
    • ….
  • Backend overview

Templating

  • Pages, forms, sections, categories
    • article contexts
    • Template Examples
      • Simple blog
      • Photoblog
      • Corporate Site

Honestly as much I don’t care for MediaWiki the thought of converting everything over one page at a time is not something I am going to tackle. Afterall for the most part MW does work.

As far as redoing the front page there is nothing preventing us from doing ti now. I feel Destry’s parental withdrawal has left Textbook without a content rudder. If we to try different setups please propose away.

Oh man, I thought it was an automated converter, not a manual one. If there isn’t a way to automate it all, the community could convert – divide and conquer! :D

The most important part of Textbook is the tag listing, I find myself going to those pages quite frequently to look up attributes. Now that Textbook is back, I plan on bringing the tags over to Doku cause any downtime means I can’t work on templates.

I’m planning on doing it all on one page, so it’s easier to get a printed copy of them. The page might be long but if I forego the examples and just have the attributes, then it becomes easier to manage.

Re: [wiki] TextBook down (database error)

Attributes only sounds great. It’d be even better if an attributes only page could be created by pulling the attributes+examples page, so content isn’t duplicated.

When Textbook was down, I had taghandlers.php open…the ultimate reference :P! Easier than Google’s cache.
