Forms tab - Search, categories and Next/Prev buttons

The forms tab can get quite long on big sites and finding stuff be a pain. Something like this would be good (just rough example I haven’t properly sorted thing)…

Yep, something like this will be happening (in 4.1.x).

Honestly, the type doesn’t mean anything in the grand scheme of things.

What I’d like to see is away to group forms and to toggle viewing these different groups.

Wouldn’t that be semantics? Type versus group?

Re: Forms tab - Search, categories and Next/Prev buttons

Well, it’s more than semantics, it’s about being able to have multiple forms for different looks on the backend. Due to the way the forms tab is laid out, once you import a couple of templates, the forms listing gets quite long.

But let’s forget about templates, being able to toggle certain groups of forms on or off, would make the display of the forms tab easier to work with. If you have 30 forms, it becomes a case where your mouse wheel gets it’s daily exercise in short order.

Templates are just the beginning, let’s say you desire to use one install of Textpattern for multiple sites. I know from my own experience that I would lean towards such a solution, I’m running 9 TxP sites myself and it would be easier to deal with just one code base.

Anyway, using dynamic collapse would be nice. I’m no ajax pusher, but when you work 10 hours a day on the TXP backend, yes it would be quite handy.

Re: Forms tab - Search, categories and Next/Prev buttons

Just to add to the one install concept:

What made this redesign particularly challenging is that we decided to run all of our sites—each of which is located at its own domain—under one ExpressionEngine installation. Normally this would be difficult to accomplish, but thanks to an interesting new ExpressionEngine feature that Paul wrote we were able to. We’re not exactly sure yet how or when that feature will be released publicly, but it should at some point.

You appear to be asking for two very different things, actually.

Re: Forms tab - Search, categories and Next/Prev buttons

I’m not really asking, I don’t think we come on this forum to request anything specific, at least it’s what I’ve surmised after following Textpattern for the last year.

If I post something nowadays, it’s just my observations, that’s all.

That’s actually what I meant in the first post. Sorry it looks like i’m asking for grouping by form type, i’m not.
