Custom write tabs

I have spent some time searching for a plug-in that can do this, but I haven’t found one.

Pmachine or expression engine has this option built in where you can make back-end forms that fill in whatever specified data you want.

What I want the plug-in to do

I have pre-determined information

Delivery Date: 4/10
Item: School Bus
Description: lorem ipsum dolor sit amet
Model Number: 1555-15-OA

So the idea would be the write form would be set up so you can fill in each field seperately, and be able pick your section and category.

So I’d have a separate field to fill in info for Delivery Date, Item, Description, and Model Number

As opposed to how textpattern currently works, where if I need to include this info I would have to use the description block and write , Delivery Date: 4/10, manually for each field. It is tedious and leaves room for human error.

Is this possible to have an admin tab to create custom write tabs or is this just a dream? If someone wants to ransom it I am sure I am not the only one who wants this feature.

Thanks

Re: Custom write tabs

I’m not sure if you’ve seen this, but on the left side on the write tab, click ‘advanced options’. You can have up to 10 fields with your own labels (custom fields) there. You can set the names of these fields in the (advanced) preferences.

Re: Custom write tabs

That is exactly what I want to do but, it limits to only ten custom inputs. Ideally I’d like a new write tab for each section with custom inputs.

Re: Custom write tabs

WhiteDog,
TXP might not be the right CMS (in its current state)? You may try expression engine which utilizes something called weblogs, where each weblog is a setup for a certain type of article, ie: one for music, one for reviews, one for basic articles, one for static content, etc. Its not Open Source, but the core is free for Non-Profit work.

Just a thought.

Re: Custom write tabs

Another example where content-type abstraction would be immensely useful. Unfortunately that would make TXP a framework, which as I’m told, is a no-no .

Until it’s not anymore, or the owner does something you don’t like. Guys, the MovableType experience wasn’t enough?

Re: Custom write tabs

Jeremie,
Fairplay, but even $250 for a license for that setup isn’t bad. I’m not in favor of either/or, it seems like we can run with a both/and scenario when deciding which CMS to use :)

Re: Custom write tabs

hey whitedog just wondering how using textcommerce for custom write tabs is going for you? i have a feeling this would be very handy for me. are you able to actually output everything fine from the custom write tabs? (due to the fact that textcommerce is at the admin interface stage only)

Re: Custom write tabs

it serves well as a “retail” store without the purchasing, like car dealerships, custom order stores, or if you are inventive renaming the “prcie, sku,” etc tags to suit your needs So yes it serves my purposes but may not suit yours.

damn. this feature sounds exactly like what i’d like in textpattern. the ability to have unlimited custom fields attached directly into certain specified sections would be amazing. i think it’d be much easier for clients to follow.

after installing and trying textcommerce out it seems like you have to enter the custom fields under ‘product’ each and every time? hmm. i was hoping for actual customization of write tabs for each section ala expression engine. damn
