It has been reuploaded. I’ve been working on the update to this plugin that includes the full functionality. The previous release was just a proof of concept, really.

Hi,

I’ve downloaded the plugin and altered it, adding in my brand-new API key, but whenever I try and submit a comment I keep getting the error:

Fatal error: Invalid API key. Please obtain one from http://wordpress.com/api-keys/ in **testserver/testdomain***\textpattern\lib\txplib_misc.php(512) : eval()’d code on line 114

Is this because I’m running this on a local test server rather than my live domain, or is it symptomatic of a larger problem?

Same problem here. Also a new API key didn’t help.

Same here, is maybe a problem with the url on akismetdomain variable?

Anyone having this problem, please make sure that the first two lines are entered in the form of :

$akismetdomain = “http://www.domain.net”;
$akismetkey = “0000000000000”;

I started using this 5 minutes ago and I’ll see if it works. I had to temporarily turn mod_security off in my .htaccess in order to save the changes (domain name + API key). No problem with API key whatsoever. Thanks for this plugin.

The spammers found a way to post their shitloads a few days ago, it took them more than a year. My guestbook got hammered. One thing that already worked was renaming section name and title from ‘guestbook’ to ‘sdfsesefscsc’. It seems harder to find :)

Is this plugin incompatible with 4.0.4?

Here’s the FAQ from Akismet.org

I tested this plugin with new keys on a couple different websites where it was working already, and didn’t have any problems. So I checked the FAQ’s from Akismet.org

Also, make sure there aren’t any periods at the end of your key. I know it’s a simple mistake, but I could see where it would happen.

My API key doesn't work!

We get this pretty often, try these steps:

    * Try the key again, after a few minutes.
    * Type in the key instead of copying and pasting it.
    * Ensure that your host can make outgoing HTTP requests to akismet.com. (Many hosts block or firewall outgoing connections.)

Aha, I saw this piece of info inside the plugin:
* Please be aware that this class is PHP5 only. Attempts to run it under PHP4 will most likely fail.
That’s why it’s not working for me.

No. It was edited to be PHP4 compatible as well. I suppose I never removed that comment from the class author.

If so:
a) Where can I find it? :-)
b) What stage of development would you say this is in?
and c) If it’s stable-ish, could you e-mail Akismet and get them to add it to their Development Page list? Textpattern needs more publicity, and a more visible developer community!
