Move to new server - Textpattern site now has diagnostic errors

My client’s Textpattern site was moved to a new server (by the host) over the weekend, unbeknownst to me. Unfortunately, the pre-flight check on the diagnostics is now showing errors, even though the site appears to be functioning (pages display correctly) as it did before the move.

The site had no pre-flight check errors before the move to the new server. I’ve successfully updated forms on the new server, and changes display correctly in the pages.

The two error messages are:
1. Web Domain DNS lookup fails
2. Clean URL test failed

Here’s what I’ve done to try and resolve the error messages:

1. Searched Google and the Textpattern support forum for the text in the first message, but didn’t find any results that pointed me to a solution. Checked the config file to see if there is any obvious issue, but nothing appears out of sorts.

2. Visited the Textpattern site, found the reference page for fixing the second error, made changes to the .htaccess file, but with no apparent change. The error message still displays.

3. In Admin > Diagnostics, I’ve checked the settings for Site URL, document_root, path_to_site, and they appear to be correct.

I’ve contacted the host about the issue; it’s in the queue. They responded this afternoon that there was no change in server configuration.

Any suggestions on what else I can check?

The first could be a local DNS problem or a misconfigured domain name. No way to be sure unless you mention which domain name you use to host your website.

The second just means that TXP can’t verify that clean URLs work on your website, but if you enable clean URLs and it works, then there is no problem. It’s just that TXP can’t tell you in advance if they work or not.

Thanks for the quick response. The domain name hasn’t been transferred yet, the site is only accessible by IP address.

When I read the response about the clean urls (in the Textpattern FAQs), it seemed to indicate that even if clean urls worked, that the error message meant there were likely other subtle ways the site wouldn’t work correctly. What confused me was how to discover all the subtle ways.

That’s correct. The problem is that we really couldn’t say what the different possibilities are, or how you might happen upon them. The idea is to let you know when clean urls are definitely working, and when there may be a problem (the test, because of how it is done, can report false negatives).
