Issues with sections
Hi all have used textpattern before this installationg i have done is a carbon copy of my other except there is no links to articles. My client just want a simple way to update each of his pages.
My problem is the sections dont work when i link to them in my html say the section i made is service when i link to it by going <a href=”/service/”>Service</a> it returns a 404 Not found page.
but i have created the sections
the only thing i can put it down to being is my server has some php errors occour in the diagnostic they are
“Your version of PHP has security related risks. Please turn register_globals off or update to a newer PHP version.
The following PHP functions (which may be necessary to run Textpattern) are disabled on your server: shell_exec, system, escapeshellarg, passthru, proc_close, proc_open, proc_get_status, proc_nice, proc_open, proc_terminate, dl, chown, disk_free_space, disk_total_space, diskfreespace, fileinode, max_execution_time, highlight_file, show_source ?”
Im in the process of getting these things fixed on my webspace. but i would like some comfirmation on weather these php problems are the cause of my sections not working or something else entirely
Please help
Cheers
Sean

Re: Issues with sections
Hi there, my web space provider fixed up my register_globals problem but it still wont link to the sections.
If i gave someone here a link and user name and password to my textpattern page could someone have a look to see if i have set up the everything right.
Im also still getting this error message when i run diagnostic
The following PHP functions (which may be necessary to run Textpattern) are disabled on your server: shell_exec, system, escapeshellarg, passthru, proc_close, proc_open, proc_get_status, proc_nice, proc_open, proc_terminate, dl, chown, disk_free_space, disk_total_space, diskfreespace, fileinode, max_execution_time, highlight_file, show_source ?
could this be stuffing up testpattern and make it not link to the sections

Re: Issues with sections
clean URL issue (not a sections issue) – check the FAQ that Els linked to… check your .htaccess file exists, check your Txp prefs, etc

Re: Issues with sections
Ok i have looked at everything that you have suggested and it hasnt worked even searched the forum.
I have installed a fresh version of the whole textpattern stuff and it works with messy linking on…
So does this mean i cannot set up anything with sections?
From what i can tell i wont be able to link to what i want etc
What i wanted to do was have 5 pages. My client would be able to update them pages through txp. The pages wouldnt have multiple posts it would be one article all the time basicly static content. I wanted to be able make my links /service/ and in that link be the article describing the services.
Can this be done at all?

Re: Issues with sections
yep, can be done – pretty standard – but it’s not really a Txp issue you have – the server must be able to handle clean URLs; maybe ask your host to look at that FAQ entry

Re: Issues with sections
Ok i did what you said they said their servers support mod_rewrite if you put the mod_rewrite command in a htaccess file in the html directory…
I thort the htaccess file already had this in it

It does. Again, work through the FAQ, with your host. We can’t help you beyond that. If you can’t get clean urls working, you’ll simply have to use messy urls. Textpattern will still work, there’s no difference in feature support.
