problem with .htaccess and password protection

With one of the hosts I’m using I’ve got this problem: when I password protect a directory (outside TXP, e.g. Slimstat) using .htaccess and .htpasswd, that directory only returns a 404. The solution the host came up with was commenting RewriteRule ^(.*) index.php in the root’s .htaccess. Great! Password protection worked, but of course my TXP sites did not anymore :/

Does anyone know a solution?

Re: problem with .htaccess and password protection

Doh! Because I didn’t think it was Textpattern related, of course I didn’t check the FAQ. Stupid me!

Thanks, Maniquí!
