Website

categories vs sections

hello,

i am creating a website portfolio for a painter. his paintings are organized in different categories. i want to make a button for each category that will open a page that displays all the paintings in that category.

right now, the painting “thumbnails” are created by the article excerpt. clicking a thumbnail will open the full size image which is basically the main article.

this would be easy to do if i was using a different SECTION for each painting category, but this make its difficult for the painter to update his site if he wants to create a new category for his paintings.

any ideas?? thanks…

Why not use the article image field? If I understand you correctly, what you want can be done easily with categories, see for instance Jon Michael Deldin’s tutorial.
