Learning curve vs. Joomla and e-commerce
I’ve been interested in possibly going Textpattern for my website design. Currently, I’ve tried Joomla and even bought the Packt Publishing book for it. Its rather confusing and was suggested to look at TXP.
I will need the ability to have e-commerce though. What do you guys use and can you send me examples?
How is the learning curve vs. Joomla?
Opinions of TXP vs. Joomla overall?
I am more a “designer”, so is TXP for me?

Hmmm…I would say, if you need e-commerce, you either need to use the item with offsite payment at paypal or google checkout. (They give you the code to make the “buy now” button appear on your site)
TXP might be better for you as long as you’re okay with figuring out the xml-style tags we use ‘round these parts. :)
There were some sites and talk of e-commerce using textpattern but they were mostly very developer. If you need more than the static buy-now buttons, you probably are going to be talking to a developer at some point.

In the time that it is going to take you to really learn Joomla, along with an adequate e-commerce solution, you could easily pick up Textpattern and develop the e-commerce portion using PayPal or Google Checkout.
Textpattern is far easier to learn (IMO) than Joomla, Drupal, and the like. I think you would be much happier in the end, with the flexibility of Textpattern.

Textpattern is better for designers IMO. I really appreciate having Textpattern tags for development; it’s advanced PHP for dumb people like me.
Textpattern allows far more flexibility with the XHTML and CSS. One of my first project in Textpattern was to build a store. I used Mal’s E for the shopping cart and PayPal for the payments. All I had to do was output custom fields in a template For price, ID and product name. Get to know the tags and you can achieve anything

….and joomla is crap.
I just saw a demo of a car dealership site developed using joomla…..i was speechless. People are willing to put up with that crap?

One thing I haven’t figure out to do simply on a e-commerce site, is automated file sales (like selling e-book). External solution such as Paypal handle payment, but not the file download control access.
