crossposting to livejournal

Hello,

I am about to start blogging on a separate personal blog powered by textpattern; however, due to the dual language problem (well, it’s not a problem, but still has to be taken into account), and also due to sizable audience in Livejournal, I would like to be able to crosspost selected entries from textpattern to my LJ account. During my most recent approach to personal blog, I was using WordPress, and after some digging I have found a working solution. I wonder if there is something already implemented for textpattern, and if not, how hard would that be to do?

In theory, the actual crosspost would be quite easy, using LJ XML/RPC API (this part I could probably code myself), but it is integration with textpattern’s data structures and especially interface that are somewhat beyond me at the moment.

Re: crossposting to livejournal

Hello mbravo,

I would be happy to help you out with the Textpattern side of things if you are happy doing the coding integration side of things. Let me know how you would like to get started, although the data structures are also way beyond me (little PHP and MySQL experience, though willing to learn).

I just recently downloaded a copy of XJournal and it works beautifully as a Mac OS X GUI for quickly posting to livejournal.com. It would be great if dual posting were possible, since XJournal makes posting so very simple. What livejournal needs is better skins, which is where Textpattern comes in.

If an interface similar to XJournal is already available for Textpattern, I’d love to know. I have heard of others, but I haven’t yet tried them out as I wasn’t quite up to the hacking required.

MarsEdit is also very nice, though it has a price tag. I don’t know much about XML-RPC, but I’ve seen a lot of references to it in the Textpattern development timeline (see revisions 627, 543, 519 and 492).

Re: crossposting to livejournal

mbravo, have you seen this forum post about the latest XRT release? It appears to work quite well in MarsEdit, although I haven’t figured out how to set categories for a post.

Edit: Click on the options button in the tool bar to select click boxes for categories.

Re: crossposting to livejournal

Thank you for the XRT link, I haven’t seen it before. Actually, you are looking at the crosspost thing at a slightly different angle – you want to be able to post to different places from a blogging client. While my original intention was to be able to do a posting directly in textpattern and then have it optionally replicated automagically to LiveJournal, via the XML/RPC magic.

Re: crossposting to livejournal

I actually like your original intention better. I was wondering if the same thing was possible using a blogging client to create identical posts to different blogs.
