Improve default pages & forms
Being on the road to a templating system, I’ve been looking at the default pages & forms.
The default pages:
- archive – used (not protected and identical to default)
- default – used
- error_default – used
The default forms:
- comments_display – used
- default – used
- lofi – not used
- search_results – used (not protected)
- single – not used
- comments – used
- comment_form – used
- popup_comments – used (not protected)
- files – used
- Links – not used (protected)
- noted – not used
- plainlinks – used (not protected)
So I’m down to 8 forms from 12, easier to work with.

Re: Improve default pages & forms
What would make a default install easier to grasp for newbies?
- Pages:
- archive – Remove it, just use default.
- default – Use form=”“ on all tags, <txp:article limit=“5” /> becomes <txp:article form=“default” limit=“5” />
- Forms:
- Get rid of lofi, single, Links and noted since they are not being used.
- Change the $essential_forms array in /textpattern/include/txp_form.php to protect the 8 remaining forms.
With the above changes, a default install is less intimidating and easier to grasp for a new user. Including forms that are not used is confusing and seeing what form a particular tag uses goes a log way towards understanding how it all fits in.
