Problem Uploading images - permissions must be 777
The permissions of my images folder are 777.
But whenever I try to upload an image in Textpattern (via Content > Images), a message pops up at the top left hand side of the screen, saying /home/nameofsite/public_html/images/3.jpg directory permissions must be 777
When I look in the images folder on the server, the image was uploaded. But it does not come up in textpattern.
So, On the server, I changed the file permission of 3.jpg to 777, then refreshed my page in my browser. After changing the permission of the individual image manually to 777, I am taken to the “image successfully uploaded page”.
How can I get my images to upload without havig to manually change the permissions for each one on the server? This must be some sort of server- settings or permissions thing, I have used textpattern on other sites and never had this problem.
Thanks.

Re: Problem Uploading images - permissions must be 777
OK, I think I found what the problem could have been.
I was integrating textpattern with an existing site. The existing site already had images that were names 1.jpg. 2.jpg etc.
When I started uploading images via textpattern, it was autonaming these images as 1.jpg, 2.jpg etc to the same images directory with my existing images. So, it was overwriting each of my existing images with the new ones.
I haven’t tried uploading any more photos as of yet, but I am pretty sure this is why my images had 644 permissions instead of 777 – they were already present and being overwritten rather than being created new.
Hopefully this resolved the problem!

Use a different directory for your images not managed by Textpattern.
