Problem with error page and ugly permlinks

Hello guys,

my server does not support nice links, so I use ugly links without date, the name of article etc .. but in this mode I have problem with 404 error page, when I execute something wrong www.myserver.com/blablabnla (there is no blablabla page) so it just opens index page without 404 error. It is not a big problem, but I want to users know that page does not exist. What should I change?

Thank you.

Re: Problem with error page and ugly permlinks

Without clean urls (or rather the specific htaccess-commands), textpattern never gets to handle those requests. So if you want to use error-pages in that case, you have to change the webserver-settings. Ask your hoster how you can use custom error-pages. Sometimes you have a setting in your hosting-control-panel, sometimes you have to use an htaccess with “Errordocument 404 /pathtofile” or something of that kind. Either way, textpattern will not be resposible for it (you’ll be using static files)

Re: Problem with error page and ugly permlinks

Thank you, I can setup 404 page in my .htaccess file. One more question. I dont understand what is wrong. When I use clean links it works fine, but when I start diagnostic then it reports me that Test of clean urls fault. I have ignored it but sometimes with clean url my page lost their style and looks ugly ..hmm

Re: Problem with error page and ugly permlinks

FAQ.

The stylesheets are not affected by the permlink mode you use. It is very likely how you are linking to them or your site url is set incorrectly.
