Re: Thinking about building an e-commerce plugin...

Really, JW? That’s strange. What version of TXP are you running?

Re: Thinking about building an e-commerce plugin...

That’s odd. I’m using 4.0.4 and I’m not having any problems. Did you follow all the nightly build install instuctions?

Re: Thinking about building an e-commerce plugin...

A subdomain could be the issue but I’m not sure. This is such a non-hardened plugin that the problem could be almost anything. I’ll be interested to hear if you turn anything up.

Re: Thinking about building an e-commerce plugin...

installing from the nightly gives me this error when I do a upgrade off the already existing plugin

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in /users/home/me/domains/my.subdomain.com/public_html/textpattern/lib/txplib_misc.php(512) : eval()'d code on line 2144
The above errors were caused by the plugin:ln_txp_commerce

when I do a fresh install (local dev with xampplite) it does not work at all. Error message is:

badly formed or empty plugin code

I just want to throw in my support for this plugin — it’s shaping up to be a great piece of software.

Re: Thinking about building an e-commerce plugin...

same problem here as -jw-. have not done a fresh install though.

[update] fresh install, went through all the steps, empty (blank window with select) store tab.

Re: Thinking about building an e-commerce plugin...

Okay – I figured out the problem. There’s a size limit on the plugins (see this thread) so my plugin is getting truncated by the database. There’s a couple of ways to get around this:

  1. Alter the txp_plugins table so it accepts larger plugins.
  2. Break the admin plugin into separate smaller plugins

I’m thinking that seeing as we’re already modifying the db schema we might as well just update the txp_plugins , unless someone has a good reason why this is a bad idea.

Here’s the fix sql (I’ll update the install instructions on the site too):

ALTER TABLE txp_plugin CHANGE code code MEDIUMTEXT CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci NOT NULL, CHANGE code_restore code_restore MEDIUMTEXT CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci NOT NULL

(I’ve moved this discussion to the main Plugins forum, as this is discussing a work in progress, rather than a request. :) )

OK works again, thanks, looks like you’re moving right along…

I think you should use TXPs existing “image” and “category” capabilities, rather than duplicate those functions. What do you think?

Re: Thinking about building an e-commerce plugin...

Well, I’m a bit further I think.

I found that I’m not able to acces the article event (content -> write tab) nor the admin event (admin -> site admin tab) when this plugin is installed. Here is what I do (plugin installed):

Login to textpattern gives me a blank screen (event=article)
via the adress bar go to event=store everything is fine
click the top nav bar tab admin results in a blank screen as does clicking the content tab
via the adresbar go to event=image everything is fine, wich also goes for the other events except the two mentioned above

This happens on two seperate hosts, one local development and one with my hosting company. I haven’t got a clue why this is happening.

I can live with this, don’t get me wrong. I think textpattern and it’s userbase is going to benefit a great deal from this plugin.

Re: Thinking about building an e-commerce plugin...

Woow This sound promising! Luv it!
Just a question … wich payment methods this will use?
What about “pay and download”, I mean if you’re going to sell some kind of digital files (Eg.: MP3s) … would TextCommerce suitable to do that?

Thx in advance!

I’m totally down with that, as the kids say. I was already planning on using TXPs category functions but I did custom-write all the image upload functionality. I’ll take a look at the codebase and see what I can use.

jw I found that I’m not able to acces the article event (content -> write tab) nor the admin event (admin -> site admin tab)

That’s very strange. It must be overriding those events. I’ll look into that and get back to you.

duchamp Just a question … wich payment methods this will use?

Well, the standard ones like PayPal & Credit Cards Gateways. The goal would be that each payment method would be a separate plugin and if none suited your needs you could just write your own payment plugin. My goal is to write a few payment plugins as examples before the ‘official’ release.

What about “pay and download”, I mean if you’re going to sell some kind of digital files (Eg.: MP3s) … would TextCommerce suitable to do that?

I’ve been thinking about that. I haven’t implemented anything but it occurs to me that we could easily use TXP file upload functionality to sell digital files. You could just create a product and assign it a file to download after purchase. This would probably be version 2 functionality though…

By the way Alex, you are an amazing illustrator. Your site is astounding. If you ever want to donate a bit of e-commerce themed artwork to the project, feel free to do so… :-)
